FC Goa Stuns Mumbai City FC, Breaks Petr’s Unbeaten Record in a Historic Showdown.
FC GOA faced Mumbai City FC in one of the Indian Super League’s greatest showdowns.
Petr Kratky had never lost a game against the Gaurs since taking charge in 2019, but Goa was ready to rewrite history.
Both teams fought extensively for the 3 points but it was Iker who emerged on the scoresheet putting Goa in the lead at the Mumbai arena.
The goal was nothing less than mesmerizing.
The dribbles were a bliss to watch.
After dribbling past the defence and dropping the defenders his shot was in the net.
Making it MCFC 0-1 FCG.
Guarrotxena was trouble to the Mumbai city’s defense. Borja Herrera played a cross but he mistimed his header. Nevertheless, Goa got the better of them after Ikers brace doubled the lead and troubles for MCFC.
Udanta crossed the ball to the penalty area and found Iker whose first touch was enough to finish in the back of the net before the halftime whistle.
It’s now MCFC 0-2 FCG
The second half was no less amazing,
Mehtab’s clearance on the ball and leaving Borja Herrera unmarked was just an invited goal.
Borja Herrera’s timed run in the penalty box let him get the ball and shot it making it 0-3 for the Gaurs.
Mumbai aimed for an equaliser but weren’t able to get past goas defence which stood strong.
Ortiz tried his best to make it tough for Goa as he sent a cross for Jon Toral which was saved by Hrithik Tiwari.
Could Mumbai City FC make a comeback or was it the end of their unbeaten streak????
With 15 minutes on the clock and Mumbai City down by 3 goals, Goa didn’t stop going for an attack.
Later Toral found Lallianzuala Chhangte in the centre of the box who couldn’t convert it and shot it high and wide instead in the 78th minute.
Manolo Marquez found a chance to keep the game strong bringing in fresh players, Dejan Drazic, Seriton Fernandes, and Sahil Tavora for Herrera, Udanta, and Ayush Dev Chhetri.
All this before the 90th-minute mark.
Chhangte took his last chance of the night and ran straight into the penalty box.
Hrithik Tiwari in an attempt to save it ran toward him leading to a penalty and a yellow shown to him.
Chhangte stepped up and converted it, shooting the goal in the center of the post.
The only goal Mumbai City FC could get past Goa tonight.
The final score was MCFC 1-3 FCG.
Petr Kratky’s unbeaten streak against Manolo Marquez was finally broken.
Not only that, they managed to break another record for MCFC.
FC GOA became the first ever ISL team to score in the first 20 games while Mumbai City’s record was 19 games.
