The top 2 teams of the Indian Super League table clashed the last time at the salt lake.

  • 45′ Goal denied due to handball to MBSG.
  • 62′ Own goal by Boris due to miscommunication.
  • 90+4′ Greg Stewart netted a goal.

The match started with MBSG asserting dominance early in the match with Greg Stewart and Dimitrios Petratos having early opportunities to score.

FC GOA however, was quick to counterattack.

As the first half progressed, FC Goa took control of the game.

Iker Guarrotxena posed a threat to MBSGs defence. Despite long-range efforts from Borja Herrera, MBSGs goalkeeper Dheeraj maintained calm.

MBSG scored a goal that was disallowed following a handball appeal from the FC Goa players. Petratos hand hit the ball when he was on the ground allowing the ball to change direction and reach the feet of Manvir Singh who scored it.

The score was 0-0 at halftime.

The second half showed a twist of events, despite maintaining possession, FC Goa suffered from a lapse in communication at the back.

Boris ran back to defend, heading the ball in for Hrithik Tiwari, who left his spot to also defend the ball.

A miscommunication caused the ball to find the back of the net putting MBSG ahead in the 62nd minute.

MBSG had very few shots and was already a goal ahead despite having no shots on target.

While it appeared that MBSG dominated possession, much of the play occurred in FC Goa’s half due to their deep build-up play rather than genuine attacking threats.

The Gaurs had their hopes to equalise with multiple runs up front and attempts that weren’t converted.

However that goal lifted the spirits of the mariners who gained confidence.

The game was an amazing closure to the Indian Super League’s top 2 teams.

Clinically dominating the game goa fell to the error at the back encouraging this to be best final match of the season at the Salt Lake Stadium for the Mariners.

It wasn’t over yet.

MBSG struck one last time in the dying minutes of the game making it 2-0 after Greg Stewart scored the goal ending the season at the top of the table.

It was a highly entertaining match.

Despite the score, Goa had been brilliant throughout the game.

With this game, FC Goa’s streak of scoring every match comes to an end, this is still the highest number of matches goa has scored continuously which is 23 games formerly held by Mumbai City FC at 19 games.

Both teams have qualified for the semis showcasing the highest level of footballing skills in the Indian Super League.
