Barcelona faced Girona at the Estadio Lluís Companys.

Hansi Flick rotated the starting 11 but that didn’t affect the quality of the gameplay.

Barcelona stood out from the very start of the game. They dominated the ball possession and also handled Gironas counterattack with ease.

The referee’s decisions were questionable, including a denied penalty claim in the 10th minute after a foul on Fermin by Yáser Asprilla. VAR was checked. After reviewing VAR, the referee chose to book Fermin for simulation, despite the strong claims for a penalty.

The first half saw some great chances by Lewandowski and Araujo but were denied by saves from Paulo Gazzaniga.

Jules Kounde found the back of the net but was called offside.

Yamal was clearly pushed in the back, but the referee decided not to intervene.

The hosts finally broke the deadlock, Yamal took a free kick aimed low, the ball hit the arm of Ladislav Krejci and went for an own goal.

Girona became more aggressive in the second half, Daley Blind was responsible for not only winning the ball but also assisting Arnaut Danjuma. With the game equalised, Flick was going to call on Ferran Torres and Frenkie de Jong.

Until then the players on the pitch gave barca their lead back. Fermin got a header after a cross from Gavi and Lewandowski scored showing his strength.
